While the Cat S60 is evidently bulkier than your conventional smartphone due to its water- and shock-proof Die Cast frame , it was one of the most-advanced rugged Androids when it came out.

Up front, it sports a 4.7-inch HD-only display, which is spruced up by Gorilla Glass 4 protection , with-glove and wet-finger support , as well as a 540nit (aka 540cd/m²) brightness -- many similarly-specked models only score around 400-450 nits.

Its main pro, however, comes in the form of a 13-megapixel dual-LED-flash thermal camera from FLIR , which is a big name in the world of thermal imaging. This means that you can use the phone for night vision, detecting overheating electronics, and spotting moisture or missing insulation. In addition, its camera also supports underwater use .

The S60's hardware specs list, consisting of an eight-core Snapdragon 617 CPU with 3GB of RAM , a 3800mAh battery , and a 32GB inbuilt memory , pass high-end marks (as of 2016 Q1) as well. Those features, together with the rest of its pros and cons, make the 2016 Cat S60 somewhat a premium model compared to most other rugged smartphones on the market.
