Despite looking like your average basic flip phone, the Kyocera Cadence LTE boasts several pros that we do not usually expect out of a clamshell phone, consequently giving it a nice... cadence. With that said, let's jump into its bundle of specs.
Kicking things off is its LTE Cat 4 network connectivity -- quite a huge selling point, considering that many tantamount flip phones are still stuck on 3G and even sluggish 2G networks. Additionally, it snugly operates on a quad-core MSM8909 1.1GHz processor
coupled with 2GB of RAM
, a hardware setup that many entry-level Android smartphones rely on. As a consequence, this should translate to a vast difference (a positive one, to be clear) in performance compared to miserable dual-core and single-core clamshells.

Just like most other flip phones, the Cadence's cons include a couple of low-end screens, particularly, a 2.4-inch (a standard size in this category) QVGA-240p internal display and a 0.9-inch monochrome OLED external screen
for notifications. Additionally, it suffers from a dull 2-megapixel fixed-focus camera
, so it pretty much won't take the crispest pictures, but that's not what it sets out to do anyway.

With those setbacks being said, though, the Cadence boasts 16GB's worth of on-board memory , which can further be expanded by up to 32GB using a microSD card
. In comparison, many basic phones settle for only 4GB storage capacities, so having 16GB of preloaded storage sounds quite nifty. Its pros and cons also include both HD voice
and VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi)
support clubbed with a dual-microphone noise cancellation system
-- all aiming to enhance its overall in-call audio quality. Sadly, its 1430mAh battery capacity
does not rise as high as some comparable models' over-2000mAh power caps, though its 16.3-day standby time and 7.2-hour maximum talk time
are appreciable, by basic phone standards. Lastly, we would have loved dual-SIM support
on a phone like this, since there are a lot of two-SIM clamshells out there.

In the end, though its pros and cons don't include a ruggedized chassis (a signature facet for many Kyocera models) nor a benevolent battery, the Kyocera Cadence's processing features and 4G compatibility could still sound appealing to a good number of flip phone buyers.
